Gram Decolorizer is used as a decolourizing solution in Gram Staining.
Various mechanisms have been proposed to explain the Gram character. The characteristic colour of Grampositive bacteria results from the ability of a cell to resist the loss of the primary stain during the decolourization
step, as compared to the gram-negative cells which do not possess this ability. Most researchers who have studied
the mechanism of Gram stain reaction have concluded that the mechanism is based on the distinctive chemistry
and physical structure of the cell walls of the organisms.
