An antibiotic supplement recommended for the selective isolation, cultivation and identification of Listeria monocytogenes from foods, animals feed and environmental specimens.
Listeria monocytogenes is a Gram-positive, non-spore forming, aerobic to facultatively anaerobic, rod-shaped bacterium which exhibits pathogenicity towards humans and other animals. Although not generally recognized as a food-borne pathogen, three recent outbreaks of listeriosis may indicate that this organism is becoming more prevalent as an agent of food-borne disease. Fraser supplements are based on the formulation of Fraser and Sperber. Fraser supplement recommended by ISO committee for selective isolation and enumeration of Listeria monocytogenes from food, animal feeds etc. This selective enrichment results in a higher detection rate of Listeria monocytogenes.
